Solo Date Ideas for PG Students on Valentine’s Day

Recovering from a slow start to your year and already fumbling over couples overly exhilarated to celebrate Valentines Day? Well, same! But indeed, when you live in a metro city like Delhi, you stay surrounded by wonderful friends and countless checklists to complete, all while enjoying the best company and date- you, yourself; things never go south! (Unless you’re in South Delhi because that’s the best place to be at.) Valentines day falling on a weekday and you residing in one of Delhi’s warmest and most comfy PGs gives you a chance to redefine the affair after a hectic workday.

To make the most out of your precious self and the valentine’s week in all its endearment, here’s how you can enjoy the occasion with you as the main character: –

A SELFCARE RETREAT

When did you last put on a face mask? Pretty sure all of us have it bought and lying somewhere on our dressing tables, glancing over it everyday while going to work or college but never really getting the time to de-stress under the cool sensation of the mask. This is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a relaxation retreat by gifting yourself the time to fall in love with your skin and body.

Go on a refreshing walk to the nearby park listening to songs that boost your morale like what you’d see in a Sting advertisement; or engage in a productive pilates/zumba session with your high energy roommate taking the lead; work out in your room or make use of a peaceful yoga/meditation session to introspect. Explore amazing offers and discounts from various skincare and wellness brands to treat your skin. Put on some jazz music, follow a 5-step skincare routine, and enjoy a glass of ginger tonic water you promised yourself to drink every day.

DATE WITH ROOMIE

Nobody enjoys the company of their roommate more than I do. Touch wood, some of us are blessed with the funniest roomies (a man could never make me laugh the way she does). To appreciate all that your roommate does for you- waking you up so that you don’t miss that important lecture, saving you lunch when you run late, being the person, you share your location with when you’re out late and a ton more things, you have to take them out on a date.

The UniLiv PGs are located at such prime spots in Delhi that in every 500 meters you walk, you find an aesthetic café but who says cafés are the best place to go for a date? You always have Sarojini Nagar serving you with a fashion mega fair, and having a “me and my roomie dress each other up” moment is the fun you are looking forward to. Being single in this economy might be tough but a good stand-up show and an even funnier companion, yes roommate dearest again, could just be the perfect place to be at (who knows you might even find your soulmate there.

GALENTINES DAY

I love my girlfriends. Yes, galentines is the new valentines! Time and again, you realise that there’s nothing more therapeutic than having a girls’ night with your precious girlies, and UniLiv has gifted its residents the best of those memories. Although there’s no specific day to celebrate female friendships, you might just go on to treat valentines day as your go to chance for partying with your friends- Gossip! Girls! Gaana! The deadly trio to kill it with your Mahila Mandal.

Whether it be a movie night or a round table (bedtime) deep talks kind of a moment, an off-key karaoke soiree or the OG food mafia experiments, it’s always something new, something exciting with the girls. This year be the giver, get matching bracelets, or rings, or anything for you and the girls; its so beautiful to look back at these cute shenanigans. And don’t forget the ultimate girlhood vim- getting dressed and putting on make up to click a lot of pictures for the ‘gram. Let the world know of the amazing love and support that having your friends by your side brings you, be grateful and raise a toast to the spirit of friendship!

A SOLO ESCAPADE

Our interests must be neglected in this highly mechanised life that we lead. Focusing on the activities that bring out our inner child, our passion and our creative energy is an enriching method of enlivening our spirits. Journaling your thoughts of the day, creating mood boards channelling your vision for the year, creating an art piece or a detailed playlist for your everyday metro commute can help you distract from the day-to-day chaos of the routine life.

A weekend following valentines day is perfect for you to make an itinerary to travel to nearby places and explore the parts of Delhi that you always wanted to visit.

My personal suggestion would be to take a bike ride traversing through central Delhi looking over the embassies and gardens that are picture perfect; visit Humayun’s tomb for the heavenly experience of feeling winter sun on your skin while admiring a stunning monument; go shopping in Janpath uncovering hidden gems of the famous Tibetan market, the Gujrati lane or the main market where you find stunning jewellery and clothes; eat your heart out in Majnu ka Tila or Humayunpur in the most affordable cafes that serve such scrumptious food. Binge watching stupid rom-coms or reconnecting with the characters of iconic series would also lighten up the burden of pending assignments and unread mails.

CONCLUSION

Valentines day is all about love, no matter who you shower it upon. Feeling bad about being single during the month of love is a universal experience but to change the perspective on what is to be celebrated is the need of the hour. Instead of feeling like an anti-romantic and melancholic person, you could be much more and seize the day in ways that entertain you, with people who make you feel loved more than anything else.

As Carrie Bradshaw rightly said, “The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you that you love, well, that’s just fabulous.” and with this mood for the weekend, I hope that all of us have a great time losing ourselves in love!
